GATORS WIN 24TH NEW ENGLAND SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
On the weekend of December 8-11th at Brown University the Bernal’s Gator Swim Club dominated the New England Senior Championships. The women and men’s team both won their separate titles each by over 300 points. The team won the combined championship by over 840 points. Head coach and owner Coach Bernal was very happy to see the athletes swim so well at this point in the season, especially being un-rested and unshaved. The athletes not only swam as a team but also pulled together in the spirit of the meet as a team. Honorable mentions go to Megan Farrell who won the 200 fly, Chris Rogers who won the 200 backstroke, the women’s winning 400 medley relay and the men’s winning 400 free and 800 free relays. For women’s individual high point Megan Farrell was awarded 2nd place and Jessica Perry was awarded 5th place. For men’s individual high point Michael Monovoukas was awarded 4th place and Patrick Biggs was awarded 8th place.

GATORS COMPETE AT MIT TRIALS FINALS MEET
On the weekend of December 8-11 the Bernal’s Gator Swim Club competed at MIT University. The team had a strong showing in all the age groups and events. The team swam 85% best times and many swimmers made finals in multiple events. Honorable mentions go to many swimmers winning events. These swimmers include Rebecca Aiello in the 11-12 girls 100 IM, 200 IM and 50 Free. Ben List won the 11-12 boys 50 and 100 Backstrokes. Allison Scott won the 11-12 girls 50 Breaststroke. Our swimmers also placed in the individual high point categories, these swimmers are Rebecca Aiello took 2nd in the 11-12 girls category, Sam Gyory took 4th for the 11-12 boys and Greg Michels took 4th for the 13-14 boys. Congratulations to all the Gators that competed in the MIT meet!!

GATORS EXCEL AT NEW ENGLAND OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Cambridge , MA - At the MIT athletic facility in July, 32 of Bernal’s Gator swimmers between the ages of 12 and 19 competed in the New England Open Championships. The team was very successful this season placing 3 rd in the combined team scores. Megan Farrell was awarded the 4th place high individual women’s high point. Robert Dowd was awarded the 2nd place and Greg Michels was awarded the 4th place 13-14 men’s individual high point awards. Sarah Ernst was awarded the 5th place high point for women’s distance swimmers. Patrick Biggs was awarded 8th place for men’s distance swimmers. While the team swam 97% best times, the swimmers also achieved 46 Super Sectional cuts, 8 US Open cuts, 6 US Summer Junior National cuts and 1 Senior National cut. The 15-16 men’s 400 Freestyle and 400 Medley Relays also placed 1st in the country for their age group. It was a very wonderful end of the season and a very successful one.
GATOR AGE GROUP SWIMMERS EXCEL AT CHAMPIONSHIPS
Cambridge, MA - Bernal's Gator Swim Club placed third at this seasons 12/U Age Group Championships, moving up three places from the previous season. Medals were won and records fell as 27 Gator's participated in the meet. Congratulations to Rebecca Aiello who placed 6th overall in the 11-12 Girls age group. It was the Gator's teamwork that truly shone as the relays had the biggest swims of them all. The 10/Under girls relay of Carina Zhang, Olivia Pierce, Eleanor Johnson, and Maggie Chory placed 3rd in the 200 Free Relay and Katelyn Mitchell stepped onto the 400 Free Relay for another 3rd place finish. The 11-12 Girls stepped up with top 3 finishes in every relay! The 400 Free Relay of Cece Burkey, Katherine Ashenfelter, Grace Bachman, and Rebecca Aiello placed 3rd, the 200 Medley Relay of Katherine Ashenfelter, Allison Scott, Christina Hurley, and Rebecca Aiello placed 2nd, and in the race of the meet the 200 Free Relay of Katherine Ashenfelter, Cece Burkey, Scarlett Hao and Rebecca Aiello came in 1st place with a National Top-16 reportable time of 2:01.39! On the boys side the Team of Brandon Brown, Sam Gyory, Dickson Lau, and Ben List swept the silvers in all the relays including breaking a Gator Record in the 200 Free Relay that has stood since 1982 when they went 1:57.36 another National Top-16 reportable time! Several other Gator Records were broken at the meet as well. Olivia Pierce set a new mark in the 10/U girls 400 Free when she stopped the clock at 5:47.58. Ben List broke the 11-12 boys 200 Back record with a 2:36.69. Sam Gyory is now the proud owner of the 11-12 Boys 400 IM Record with a 5:54.33. Cece Burkey set 2 records in the 11-12 Girls 1500 Free 19:51.77 and the 800 Free 10:07.21! Other swimmers with notable individual swims include Sam Gyory 2nd place 50 Fly and Ben List 2nd place 50 Back.

GATORS WIN 22ND NEW ENGLAND SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
TITLE
Bernal's Gator Swim Club dominated the New
England Senior Championships at Bowdoin College in Maine on March
3- 6, 2005. The Gators won the meet, scoring 2756 points and beating
the second place team, Shawmut Aquatic Club, by nearly 500 points.
The Women's overall High Point winner was Megan Farrell (16). Jessica
Perry (16) was awarded the 2nd place title and Sarah Ernst (16)
captured 8th place. The High Point winner for the men was Max Butler
(16). Michael Monovoukas (14) was awarded the 4th place title, Sasha
Dobrolioubov (16) the 6th place title and Patrick Biggs (15) the
8th place title. The distance high point winners for the women were
Sarah Ernst (2nd place), Katie Soja (16; 4th place) Megan Farrell
(7th place) and Jessica Perry (8th place) . The distance high point
winners for the men were Michael Monovoukas (3rd place), Patrick
Biggs (4th place) and Max Butler (5th place).
While the Gators dominated almost every event
many of our swimmers made national time standards and broke New
England and Gator team records. Megan Farrell, the Women's High
Point winner of the meet, also won the 100 Butterfly with a 56.20
and the 200 Butterfly with a 2:04.53, making US Open time standard
in both events. Megan also won five other events - the 100 Freestyle
(51.92), the 200 Freestyle (1:52.06), the 500 Freestyle (5:02.24),
the 200 Backstroke ( 2:06.84), and the 200 IM (2:06.66) - making
NCSA Junior National time standards in all of her events.
CONGRATULATIONS MEGAN!!
Jessica Perry, who was the second place High
Point winner of the meet, won the 200 breaststroke with a 2:19.63
making a US Open time standard. She also won the 100 Breaststroke
with a 1:04.22 making a Summer Junior National time standard and
the 400 IM with a 4:27.00 making a NCSA Junior National time standard.

Christopher Rogers (14) broke the New England
and Gator backstroke records in the Men's 13-14 100 Yard backstroke
with a time of 53.06, breaking the record of 53.74 held by Rick
Carey since 1982. He also qualified for the NCSA Junior Nationals
in the event.

Max Butler, who was the Men's High Point
winner of the meet, won the 100 Backstroke with a 51.14 making a
US Open time standard and the 200 Backstroke with a 1:51.98 making
a NCSA Junior National time standard.

Michael Monovoukas, who was the fourth place
High Point winner of the meet, won the 1000 Freestyle with a 9:37.87
making a NCSA Junior National time standard and the 1650 Freestyle
with a 16:24.49.

Patrick Biggs, who was the eighth place High
Point winner of the meet, won the 500 Freestyle with a 4:44.69.

The Gators were not only outstanding in their
individual events, but were just as strong in the relays. The women's
relays won every night with both of the relays making national time
standards. The 400 Freestyle A relay with Susannah Ford, Sarah Ernst,
Jessica Perry and Megan Farrell won with a 3:33.94, making a Summer
Junior National time standard. The 400 Freestyle B relay with Francesca
Tocci, Leslie Bargmann, Lauren Wilson and Kristyn Roth took 2nd
with a 3:36.18 also making a Summer Junior National time standard.
The 800 Freestyle A relay with Sarah Ernst, Francesca Tocci, Jessica
Perry and Megan Farrell won with a 7:45.12 making a Summer Junior
National time standard. The 400 Medley A relay with Lauren Wilson,
Jessica Perry, Megan Farrell and Francesca Tocci won with a 3:33.08
making a US Open time standard. The 400 Medley B relay with Krisyn
Roth, Lisa Donnelly, Leslie Bargmann and Sussanah Ford took 3rd
with a 4:00.86 with a Summer Junior National time standard.

The men's relays were equally dominating
every evening and made national time standards. The 400 Freestyle
A relay with Michael Monovoukas, Patrick Biggs, Sasha Dobrolioubov
and Max Butler won with a 3:12.70 making a Summer Junior National
time standard. The 400 Freestyle B relay with Greg Lowen, Clarke
Madigan, Robert Dowd and Christopher Rogers took 3rd place. The
800 Freestyle A relay with Michael Monovoukas, Patrick Biggs, Sasha
Dobrolioubov and Max Butler won with a 7:04.00 making a Summer Junior
National time standard. The 400 Medley A relay with Christopher
Rogers, Sasha Dobrolioubov, Michael Monovoukas and Max Butler took
2nd making a Summer Junior National time standard.
CONGRATULATIONS GATOR MEN!!
The Gator team was able to add five new first
time individual qualifiers to the NCSA Junior National roster. Susannah
Ford, qualified in the 50 Freestyle with a 24.57. Francesca Tocci
also qualified for the 50 Freestyle with a 24.41 and Lauren Wilson
(16) qualified for the 100 Backstroke with a 59.05. Michael Monovoukas,
qualified for the 1000 Freestyle with a 9:37.87 and Christopher
Rogers qualified for the 100 Backstroke with a 53.06.

During time trials the Gator men's 13-14
and 15-18 men's relay teams went after Gator and New England records
in the 200 Freestyle and Medley relay titles. The 13-14 boys relay
team in the 200 Freestyle with Michael Monovoukas, Robert Dowd,
Christopher Rogers and Greg Lowen broke the New England and Gator
records with a time of 1:30.28. The Gator team of David Wilkins,
Frank Han, David Johnson and David Nason previously held the New
England and Gator records since 1985 with a time of 1:32.54. The
13-14 men's team in the 200 Medley relay with Christopher Rogers,
Robert Dowd, Michael Monovoukas and Greg Lowen broke the New England
and Gator records with a time of 1:42.35. The Gator team of David
Wilkins, Fank Han, David Johnson and David Nason previously held
the New England and Gator records since 1985 with a time of 1:45.09.
The 15-18 men's 200 Freestyle relay of Sasha Dobrolioubov, Max Butler,
Clarke Madigan and Patrick Biggs broke the Gator record with a time
of 1:30.17. The Gator record has been standing since 1985 with a
time of 1:34.11. The 15-18 men's 200 Medley relay of Max Butler,
Ben Driver, Sasha Dobrolioubov and Clarke Madigan broke the Gator
record with a time of 1:42.51. The Gator record has been standing
since 1985 with a time of 1:43.70.
CONGRATULATIONS GATOR MEN!!
The Gator team swam at high competitive levels
at this championship. The team of 26 swimmers that competed at this
meet came together and were able to dominate and bring home one
more star to add to their championship banners and T-shirts to make
it their 22nd New England Senior Championship victory.
